Linguistic development

Most of the time I post photos of Declan on here, but today he did two things that were so impressive (to me, at least) that I have to record them:
  • He said 'I catched it', after chasing and stopping a run away ball AND
  • He said 'I losed it', when a car rolled under the couch.
I take these to be instances of the 'over-generalization' of the past tense of English verbs, which means that he has progressed from the first stage of linguistic development (memorizing words as they are heard) to the second (creating words according to grammatical rules).
Chomsky was so right.
